Hands-Free Texting Legal, But Penalties For Slip-Ups Are Steep

By PSBLawAdm1n on July 19, 2012

Drivers in California will now be allowed to text as long as their devices are completely hands-free. The new law was proposed as a way to take advantage of this new hands-free technology.  A report gives further detail on the amount people could expect to pay in fines.  Violators, including those who simply tap a button on their phone, will be fined $20 the first time and $50 for subsequent infractions. When all is said and done, total fees will make the first offense $160 and each subsequent infraction $280.
