Dexter brake actuator pump recall expands to Cam Superline trailers

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on May 24, 2012

The recall of trailers equipped with Dexter Axle brand electric hydraulic brake actuator pumps has been expanded to include two trailers manufactured by Cam Superline Incorporated. This voluntary recall has been issued at the request of the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration due to the possibility that the Dexter Axle brand electric hydraulic brake actuator pumps installed in these trailers may not have been properly heat treated during the manufacturing process. This inadequate heat treatment may cause the electric hydraulic brake actuator pumps installed in the affected Cam Superline trailers to deteriorate more rapidly than anticipated, potentially creating a situation in which the brake actuator pump fails unexpectedly. Since the brake actuator pump is the power source for the trailers’ braking systems, the brakes in affected trailers may fail unexpectedly, increasing the danger the trailer will become involved in a collision possibly resulting in serious injury or death. The trailer models affected by this recall are a single model year 2012 6CAM18C trailer and a single model year 2012 7CAM19STT trailer. The owners of the trailers affected by this recall expansion have been notified of the potential safety issue by Cam Superline Incorporated, and the insufficiently heat treated Dexter brand electric hydraulic brake actuator pumps have been replaced with pumps that meet the manufacturer’s production standards at no additional charge. Consumers seeking more information related to this recall expansion can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline.
