Posted on April 30, 2012

At the request of the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, Dorel Juvenile Group (or DJG) Incorporated, headquartered in Columbus, Indiana, has announced a voluntary recall for approximately 900,000 of its Push ‘N Snap Cabinet Locks due to a potential for product malfunction. These cabinet locks can be disengaged by young children, allowing them access to the potentially harmful to the contents of the cabinets the locks are intended to secure. Dorel Juvenile Group has received approximately 200 consumer complaints of insufficiently secured cabinets, including several reports of the locks being damaged. An estimated 140 children between the ages of 9 months and 5 years were able to disengage the Push ‘N Snap Cabinet Locks and gain access to the cabinets the locks were intended to secure, according to reports received by DJG. At least three children are reported to have consumed a harmful cleaning product after gaining access to the unsecured cabinet. Push ‘N Snap Cabinet Locks with model numbers 48391 and 48442 are affected by this recall. The model numbers for the locks can be found printed on the back of the product’s packaging, as well as on the back of the product itself.

As a San Francisco personal injury lawyer, I hope this recall is carried out in time to prevent anymore harm to children. If you or someone you care for has been harmed as the result of a defective product, please consider contacting a personal injury attorney in Bakersfield.
