The Mo Trailers Corporation has issued a voluntary recall for three of its 39 VS and 41 VS trailers manufactured during model year 2011 due to a potential defect in the electric hydraulic brake actuator pumps. The corporation has also announced a voluntary recall for two of these actuator pumps, which were sold as retail auto parts. The possibility exists that some of these actuator pumps were not sufficiently heat treated during the manufacturing process, which might compromise the durability of the parts, causing them to degrade prematurely and potentially fail unexpectedly. Because the electric hydraulic brake actuator pumps are responsible for providing power to the trailer brakes, premature actuator failure may cause the trailer’s brakes to cease functioning properly without warning, increasing the risk that the trailer will be involved in a collision. A total of five brake actuator pumps are affected by this recall. Mo Trailers has already begun to inform owners of affected actuator pumps of the potential defect.
